Omoyele Sowore cybercrime trial continues in Abuja

The cybercrime trial of Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, continued in the Federal High Court in Abuja. During proceedings, a member of Sowore’s legal team admitted during cross-examination to being unfamiliar with Section 83(3) of the Evidence Act while attempting to tender printouts of online media reports.

The defense sought to admit documents suggesting the Department of State Services (DSS) considered suspending the trial until after the January 2027 presidential election. However, the prosecution objected to the admissibility of these documents and to a defense request to subpoena the DSS lead counsel as a witness, labeling the move as “bad faith” and “diversionary.”

Sowore has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of using these frequent court proceedings to frustrate his political activities and prevent him from campaigning for the 2027 general elections. He alleged that the timing of the hearings is deliberately designed to coincide with his travel and political engagements to distract from his presidential ambitions.
