Omoyele Sowore demands arrests following machete attack in Ekiti State

Human rights activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore has called on the Nigeria Police Force to arrest ten individuals he accuses of attacking him and his team with machetes in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

During a meeting at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Sowore informed Assistant Inspector-General of Police Alonyenu Francis that he had submitted a petition to the Inspector-General containing the names of the alleged attackers. Sowore specifically named Asefon, a Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, alleging that the adviser is currently in Abuja after fleeing Ekiti State.

AIG Francis stated that the Inspector-General has dispatched a special team from Abuja to Ekiti State to investigate the incident and identify those responsible.

The Northern Stakeholders Consultative Initiative (NSCI) has also condemned the incident. NSCI convener Ambassador Yerima Shettima called for a transparent investigation free from political interference, warning that violence against individuals for expressing dissenting views undermines democratic values and the rule of law.
