Omoyele Sowore returns to Nigeria to resume 2027 presidential campaign
Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has returned to Nigeria from the United States to resume his 2027 presidential campaign. His trip to the U.S. followed a period of separation caused by what he described as arrests, detentions, and the seizure of his international passport by Nigerian security agencies.
During his time in the United States, Sowore participated in a pro-Palestinian solidarity protest in New York City and met with members of the Nigerian diaspora. He has advocated for the introduction of diaspora voting to allow Nigerians living abroad to participate in the country’s electoral process.
Upon his return, Sowore is expected to travel to Abuja to attend court proceedings regarding a 2025 cybercrime case filed against him by the State Security Service (SSS). His campaign intends to launch a nationwide mobilization effort, engaging various sectors including students, workers, and farmers to present the AAC’s political and economic agenda.
