Omoyele Sowore ordered to continue defense in defamation case
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), to continue his defense in a defamation case on October 2. The case was brought by the Department of State Services (DSS) following social media posts in August 2025 where Sowore referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal” and accused him of dishonesty regarding national corruption levels.
During the proceedings, Sowore’s defense counsel, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, argued for the appearance of the DSS Director-General, Tosin Ajayi, as a subpoenaed witness. Although a previous understanding mediated by the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, suggested a different officer could represent the agency, the defense insisted on the Director-General’s presence after no representative appeared in court.
The court previously rejected Sowore’s “no case submission” and his request for the presiding judge to recuse himself due to alleged bias.
