Once Caldas seeks new manager following coaching change

Once Caldas is actively searching for a new head coach following the departure of Hernán Darío Herrera. Herrera left his position after nearly three years, a decision prompted by a 3-1 defeat against Atlético Bucaramanga that jeopardized the team's standing in the Liga BetPlay 2026-II.

Currently, Carlos ‘Panelo’ Valencia is serving as the interim manager. The club's primary objective is to secure a position in the playoff rounds and compete in the Copa Colombia to potentially earn a spot in an international tournament.

Two primary candidates have emerged in the search. Hernán Torres, who has managed several prominent Colombian clubs including Millonarios and América de Cali, has gained momentum as a leading option. Additionally, negotiations are underway with experienced coach Leonel Álvarez. While Álvarez has expressed interest in the project and held discussions with club president Daniel Jaramillo, contract negotiations have reportedly reached a standstill over specific terms.
