Once Upon a Crime anime adaptation announced for 2027

The anime adaptation of the novel ‘Akazukin, Tabi no Tochuu de Shitai to Deau’ (also known as ‘Once Upon a Crime’ or ‘Red Riding Hood: A Detective Story’) has been announced for a 2027 release. Written by Aito Aoyagi, the story follows a version of Red Riding Hood who uses her curiosity and wit to solve various mysteries and crimes encountered during her travels in a dark fairy tale world.

Production is being handled by studio BENTEN Film, with Itsuro Kawasaki serving as the director and screenwriter. The character designs are credited to Manami Minakata and Yuko Yahiro. The voice cast includes Yume Miyamoto as Red Riding Hood and Akira Sekine as Pinocchio. Other key staff members include art directors Izumi Hoki and Hiroshi Kato, cinematographer Rieko Koike, and editor Daisuke Hiraki.
