Oncological rehabilitation supports cancer recovery

Oncological rehabilitation can assist patients in managing the physical and psychological consequences of cancer following treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. These consequences may include exhaustion, loss of bodily trust, or incontinence.

Rehabilitation programs are tailored to individual needs and can include psychological support, nutrition therapy, and movement therapy. These programs typically last three weeks but can be extended if medically required. Services are available in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

The Deutsche Krebshilfe recommends that patients discuss the timing of rehabilitation with their doctors early on. Such programs can begin immediately after hospital treatment or within the first year following the completion of cancer therapy. For employed individuals, the Deutsche Rentenversicherung is generally the entity responsible for financing the rehabilitation.
