Oncologist Rachna Shroff dies at 47
Dr. Rachna Shroff, a prominent Indian-American oncologist and researcher specializing in cholangiocarcinoma, has died at the age of 47. She served as a Senior Physician-Scientist at the University of Arizona Cancer Center and held leadership roles including Associate Director of Clinical Investigations and Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine–Tucson.
Dr. Shroff was a leading expert in rare bile duct cancers, contributing to over 80 scientific publications and 130 professional presentations. Her work focused on bridging the gap between translational research and clinical trials to develop new drug and immunological therapies for hepatobiliary malignancies.
In September, she established the Conquer Cancer–Rachna Shroff FASCO Endowed Young Investigator Award in Biliary Cancers, an initiative that raised over $1.35 million to support future innovation in the field. Despite battling cancer herself, she remained dedicated to advancing treatment options and improving patient access to clinical trials.
