Oncology shifts toward personalized care and obesity research

Medical approaches to breast cancer are shifting toward multidisciplinary care. Rather than focusing solely on tumor elimination and survival rates, modern oncology emphasizes personalized treatment plans that include nutritionists, cardiologists, psychologists, and physical exercise specialists to preserve quality of life and minimize long-term side effects.

Simultaneously, research in Spain is investigating the link between weight and cancer. The FOBEyCAN study, conducted by the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM), reveals that 57.8% of cancer patients in Spain are overweight or obese, with 23.6% being obese. This excess weight is associated with an increased risk of at least 13 types of cancer and can influence how patients respond to oncological treatments. The study, which has analyzed 1,333 patients across 29 centers, aims to expand to 3,000 participants to further understand these metabolic connections.
