Onconic Therapeutics advances zastaprazan Phase 3 trials in China
Onconic Therapeutics has announced that its Chinese licensing partner, Livzon Pharmaceutical Group, has initiated a Phase 3 clinical trial for an injectable formulation of zastaprazan (marketed as Zacubo in Korea). The trial aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the drug in treating peptic ulcer bleeding.
Following the commencement of this trial, Onconic has received a USD 1 million development milestone payment from Livzon. The company is pursuing a dual oral and injectable strategy to target the gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) market in China. An application for the approval of oral zastaprazan for erosive GERD was submitted to China’s National Medical Products Administration in August 2026 and is currently under review. Additionally, Phase 3 trials for H. pylori eradication therapy began in May of this year.
