Onconic Therapeutics secures clinical evidence for Jaquvo and atorvastatin co-administration
Onconic Therapeutics has announced that research evaluating the pharmacokinetic drug-drug interaction (DDI) between its gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) treatment, Jaquvo (zastaprazan citrate), and the hyperlipidemia medication atorvastatin has been published in the international SCI(E) journal ‘Drug Design, Development and Therapy’.
The study, conducted by Professor Won-seok Shin’s team at Bundang Chah Hospital, involved 24 healthy Korean adults. It assessed steady-state bidirectional interactions between the two drugs, which both utilize the CYP3A metabolic pathway.
Results indicated that co-administering Jaquvo did not cause clinically significant changes in atorvastatin levels. The peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and total exposure (AUC) for atorvastatin remained at 98% and 103% of single-dose levels, respectively. Additionally, the concentration of the active metabolite 2-hydroxyatorvastatin was not affected.
The findings suggest that patients treating hyperlipidemia with atorvastatin may not require dosage adjustments when prescribed Jaquvo. Jaquvo also maintained similar exposure levels when taken with atorvastatin. The study reported excellent tolerability with no serious adverse events or dropouts recorded.
