Onconic Therapeutics unveils OCN-501 for muscle-preserving obesity treatment

Onconic Therapeutics has unveiled the research direction for its next-generation drug candidate, OCN-501. The candidate is being developed as a first-in-class treatment designed to be used in combination with GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as semaglutide, to address the issue of muscle loss during weight reduction.

Unlike traditional weight loss drugs that compete directly with existing GLP-1 therapies, OCN-501 aims to complement them by focusing on the 'quality of weight loss.' This strategy targets the preservation of skeletal muscle and the improvement of body composition, addressing a significant unmet need in the obesity treatment market.

The research has been selected for a late-breaking abstract and an oral presentation at the upcoming ObesityWeek 2026 conference. Detailed research methodologies and data are scheduled to be presented this November in Washington, D.C.
