Onda City Council completes restoration of historic sagrario in Ermitorio del Santísimo Salvador

The Ayuntamiento de Onda finished an extensive conservation project on the sagrario of the Ermitorio del Santísimo Salvador. Mayor Carmina Ballester, accompanied by councilor Maribel Raigada, inspected the restored piece, which had suffered severe deterioration over time. Restorer Francesc Chiva of ConservArt Restauració i Conservació led the work, which involved mechanical‑chemical cleaning, removal of oxidation, reconstruction of lost volumes, re‑stuccoing, polishing, and the application of 23‑karat gold leaf using traditional water‑based techniques.

The restored sagrario will be permanently installed on the main altar, preserving a key element of the town’s cultural identity. Ballester emphasized the project as part of Onda’s broader effort to protect and transmit its heritage to future generations.
