ONDA highlights copyright registration as a driver for the Dominican creative economy
The National Copyright Office (ONDA) has highlighted that the increasing registration of artistic, scientific, and literary works is a key driver for strengthening the creative economy in the Dominican Republic.
During a seminar in Moca, Espaillat province, ONDA Director General José Rubén Gonell Cosme and Mayor Miguel Guarocuya Cabral emphasized that intellectual property protection is essential for cultural and economic development. The growth in registrations is attributed to inter-institutional policies implemented during the administration of President Luis Abinader, which notably led to the Dominican Republic's removal from the United States Department of Commerce's 'List 301'.
The event brought together artists, writers, composers, and cultural managers to discuss the importance of legal mechanisms that allow creators to protect their work and receive proper recognition for their intellectual production.
