Ondo Finance founder's estate dispute escalates into family legal battle
A legal battle over the control of Ondo Finance has escalated into a family dispute following the sudden death of its founder, Nathan Olman, in May. Because Olman died without a will, his significant holdings in the RWA (Real World Asset) tokenization platform and large quantities of ONDO tokens were inherited by his parents.
Lani Clinton, Olman’s half-sister, and investor David Chen have petitioned a Hawaii court to appoint a limited guardian for Olman’s 77-year-old mother, Kathleen Olman. They allege that Kathleen suffers from alcohol abuse and cognitive decline, making her unfit to manage the substantial inheritance. Kathleen Olman has denied these claims, characterizing them as baseless personal attacks by management seeking to seize control.
The conflict also involves a struggle for corporate leadership. Kathleen Olman has challenged the authority of acting CEO Ian de Bond, alleging he attempted to secure an illegal $11 million compensation package shortly after the founder's death. While a court order currently allows de Bond to maintain his position, the outcome of the guardianship petition and the ongoing litigation could fundamentally shift the governance of Ondo Finance and the management of its digital assets.
