Ondo Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa urges unity against banditry and prepares state police
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Nigeria’s Ondo State appealed to traditional rulers and residents to join the government in combating terrorism and banditry during the ceremony appointing Oba Samuel Omopariola Odimayo as the new Olofun of Irele. He emphasized that development cannot occur where people live in fear and urged the monarch to use his authority to promote peace rather than target opponents.
Aiyedatiwa also said the state is ready to launch a state police force, building on structures established by his predecessor, Rotimi Akeredolu. He noted that the necessary framework and personnel are in place, pending approval and acquisition of weapons and equipment, and warned that insecurity threatens democratic consolidation in Ondo.
