Ondo State communities prepare for major cultural anniversaries

The Ondo Kingdom in Ondo State will honor Americans Sway Calloway and Leila Steinberg with traditional chieftaincy titles. The honors are part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the reign of Oba Victor Kiladejo, themed “20 Years of Unprecedented Peace and Development in Ondo Kingdom”.

The anniversary program includes a “Festival of Surgeries” medical outreach, a golf tournament, an art exhibition, and an inter-school debate competition. These activities will lead up to the annual Ekimogun Day Festival on December 26.

In a separate event, the community of Odooko Afa, Okeagbe Akoko, is preparing for the Second Ancestors’ Remembrance and Appreciation Day. This coincides with the first coronation anniversary of High Chief Bakkita Bello, known as Olukoju, a former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly. The two-day event is scheduled for November 2026 and aims to preserve local cultural heritage and strengthen communal unity.
