Ondo State Governor flags off 2.38km Akure flyover project

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has officially flagged off the construction of a 2.38-kilometre flyover in Akure, the state capital. The project, which features 94 spans, will run along the Oyemekun–Oba Adesida Road corridor, stretching from Adegbola Junction through Ojaoba and Adegbemile-Omieja to St. Mathias in Alagbaka.

The governor stated that the infrastructure is a strategic intervention designed to alleviate worsening traffic congestion and improve road safety. He noted that the corridor serves as a vital commercial and administrative artery connecting markets, schools, and financial institutions, but has faced increasing pressure due to population growth and rising vehicular movement.

Addressing critics, Aiyedatiwa defended the necessity of the project, clarifying that it aligns with President Tinubu’s guidance to avoid unnecessary flyovers. He emphasized that this specific location is essential for urban renewal and economic mobility. The governor also attributed the state's capacity to undertake such critical infrastructure to the economic reforms implemented by the Federal Government.
