Ondo State launches certification programme for 500 young artisans

The Ondo State Government has launched a free trade test and certification programme for 500 young artisans to enhance employability and entrepreneurship. Organized by the Ondo State Board for Adult, Technical and Vocational Education, the initiative is a collaborative effort with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and the German Centre for Migration and Development.

The programme aims to provide formal recognition to practical skills acquired outside traditional educational systems. During the flag-off ceremony in Akure, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by Secretary to the State Government Taiwo Fasoranti, emphasized that technical skills from electricians and automobile technicians are vital to economic growth.

By providing formal certification, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between informal skill acquisition and professional recognition. This process is intended to give employers and customers greater confidence in the artisans' competence, allowing beneficiaries to compete more effectively in the job market and expand their businesses.
