Ondo State vehicle inspection officer killed in Akure accident

A 35-year-old Vehicle Inspection Service (VIO) officer, Adedeji Sesan, was killed on Friday during a routine patrol in Akure, the capital of Ondo State. The incident occurred along Hospital Road near Mega Primary School.

According to the Ondo State Police Command, the officer attempted to flag down a white Mitsubishi van for a routine inspection of its documents. The driver, identified as 37-year-old Ayoade Idowu, allegedly drove off after initially stopping, striking the officer in the process. Mr. Sesan sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Teaching Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

Police have arrested and detained the driver, and investigations are ongoing. The case is expected to be transferred to the Motor Traffic Division for further action.
