Ondokuz Mayıs University begins grape harvest in Bafra

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ) Faculty of Agriculture has commenced the grape harvest at its Bafra Research and Application Center. The project involves a 10-decare vineyard where 10 different grape varieties are being cultivated to evaluate their adaptation to regional conditions, yield, and quality.

Initial harvesting has focused on the Trakya İlkeren and Early Sweet varieties, which are noted for their large berries, flavor, and visual appeal. Professor Bülent Köse highlighted that the Trakya İlkeren variety is particularly early-maturing and possesses high table grape value.

In addition to academic research, the project serves as a practical training ground for students, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting. Dean Orhan Dengiz noted that the initiative provides significant added value to the region through both research findings and local production contributions.
