One dead and nine injured in Italian agricultural worker van rollover

A van carrying ten Moroccan agricultural workers overturned on Sunday, August 9, near Serracapriola in the Foggia province, resulting in one death and nine injuries. The incident occurred shortly after 1:00 PM on Provincial Road 45 in the Montesecco area as the workers were returning home after a day of labor in the fields of Molise.

The victims, aged between 21 and 49, were residents of Torremaggiore. While one worker died at the scene, the others were transported to hospitals in Foggia, San Severo, and Termoli. One individual reportedly suffered serious polytrauma and required intubation. Authorities noted that the Ford Transit van left the roadway for reasons still under investigation by the Carabinieri and the Prosecutor's Office of Foggia.

Labor unions, including CGIL, have used the tragedy to call for greater action against labor exploitation and improved transport safety in the agricultural sector. The incident took place during extreme heat, with temperatures in the region approaching 40 degrees Celsius. The Mayor of Torremaggiore, Emilio Di Pumpo, expressed condolences, noting the workers' significant contributions to the local agricultural economy.
