One dead and two injured in high‑speed Barnegat Bay boat crash
A motorboat carrying five people struck an Intracoastal Waterway channel marker at high speed on Saturday night in the Toms River section of Barnegat Bay, Ocean County, New Jersey. The crash left one person dead and at least two seriously injured, who were airlifted to hospitals. Authorities said all passengers were teenagers. The incident occurred during one of the busiest boating weekends of the summer and follows a similar fatal crash on the same waterway a week earlier that claimed two children. The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office reminded the public to operate boats responsibly, likening boat operation to vehicle safety.
The crash prompted emergency response with medical helicopters and heightened safety alerts for the area.
