A panic-induced crowd crush occurred in central Amman on Tuesday morning after the Algeria vs Jordan game of the 2026 World Cup, which Algeria won 2‑1. Emergency services were called to the area around the Roman Theatre and Hashemite Square as large numbers of fans gathered. Nine people were taken to hospital; one victim later died while the other eight suffered light to moderate injuries.
