One Delta school board candidates announce Safe Walk Program

One Delta school board trustee candidates have announced the Safe Walk Program, a strategic initiative designed to improve student safety and accessibility to and from schools. The program focuses on creating reliable routes for children to walk or cycle.

If elected, the candidates propose five key actions. These include establishing a coordinated communication process between the Delta School District, the City of Delta, the Delta Police Department, and local families to address safety concerns. The plan also involves physical infrastructure upgrades, such as improved crossings, better sightlines, and the addition of missing sidewalks.

Additional measures include supporting walk zones and “walking school bus” initiatives to reduce traffic congestion at school entrances. The slate also intends to promote age-appropriate road safety education and support the enforcement of regulations regarding e-bikes and e-scooters.
