One Economy Foundation warns of fundraising scam
The One Economy Foundation has issued a warning to donors and the public following a fraudulent fundraising scam. A donor mistakenly sent a payment intended for the foundation’s upcoming 11th Annual Fundraising Soiree to an unauthorized account.
Executive Director Pauline Thomas Kahupi stated that the payment was prompted by a fraudulent invoice sent from a Gmail address impersonating the foundation’s Chairperson, Monica Geingos. The foundation reported that it acted quickly to have the fraudulent account suspended before the full amount could be withdrawn and is currently working with authorities to investigate the incident.
The foundation advised the public to avoid correspondence from specific fraudulent addresses and to verify all requests through official channels. For the upcoming gala on 1 October 2026, the only legitimate email addresses for correspondence are onefundraiser@1economy.org and fd@1economy.org.
