One Heart Entertainment chair warns of Chinese film industry downturn
Yang Tianzhen, chairperson of One Heart Entertainment, has highlighted a severe downturn in the Chinese film and television industry, describing a “film and television winter.” During a podcast discussion with actress Song Jia, Yang revealed that the production start rate for new projects this year is reportedly only 30% of the previous year's rate.
Yang noted that many actors are currently without work because projects are being stalled. Even in cases where actor contracts have been signed, productions are failing to launch due to investors or streaming platforms withdrawing support.
Several high-profile actors under One Heart Entertainment, including Taiwanese stars Mark Chao, Wu Kangren, and Chen Haosen, are navigating this environment. Mark Chao noted receiving only about 10 script invitations in the first half of the year. Despite the industry slump, Song Jia expressed that she remains positive, viewing the current lack of production as a temporary phase in her career.
