One injured in New York Times Square shooting

A shooting broke out at Times Square in New York City on Thursday, June 19, at about 3:40 p.m. GMT (19:40 GMT). Police arrested a suspect on the scene and sealed the area with barricades and tape.

The incident left a 17‑year‑old boy wounded; he was taken to a hospital by police officers. The shooting occurred just hours after a large celebration for the New York Knicks' NBA championship, which had drawn thousands of spectators and prompted the deployment of roughly 10,000 police officers throughout the city.

Video footage showed crowds fleeing the intersection, people seeking shelter, and the sound of gunfire echoing through the busy entertainment hub. Police later recovered a loaded firearm from a suspect at the scene.
