One Million Signatures Campaign legacy in Iran

The One Million Signatures Campaign, launched in August 2006, stands as one of the most significant and cohesive collective actions in Iran's contemporary history. Aimed at changing discriminatory laws, the movement sought to foster public dialogue regarding women's rights and cultivate a million civil activists.

By utilizing social and legal tools, the campaign challenged legal inequalities and pressured decision-making bodies to respond. A key strategy was its gender-inclusive approach, which engaged both men and women in the pursuit of equality, refuting the notion that gender issues are exclusively female concerns. While political pressures and arrests following the 2009 elections limited its operational capacity, the movement left a lasting intellectual and discursive legacy within Iranian civil society.
