One More Level's Valor Mortis receives early previews

Valor Mortis, the upcoming first-person soulslike from One More Level, the developers of the Ghostrunner series, is receiving early previews. Set in an alternate history where Napoleon Bonaparte’s wars never ended and a Crimson Plague has ravaged Europe, the game follows a soldier named William who is resurrected by a mysterious figure.

Gameplay features include a heavy emphasis on a dodge-and-parry combat system, supplemented by ranged weapons like pistols and blunderbusses. Players can acquire supernatural abilities, such as fire manipulation and time-freezing, to combat enemies. While the first-person perspective is noted as a unique take on the genre, some early testers have reported uneven difficulty balancing, particularly during climactic boss fights.

Despite frustrations with difficulty spikes, the game is recognized for its atmospheric world-building and the integration of its supernatural elements into the combat loop.
