Torquay: One Nation volunteer allegedly assaulted

A 60-year-old One Nation volunteer is recovering in a hospital after an alleged attack outside his home in Torquay, Victoria. The incident occurred on a Sunday evening when the man reportedly confronted a 14-year-old boy who was allegedly damaging political signs on his property.

Victoria Police arrested a 37-year-old man from Hampton Park and a 14-year-old boy in connection with the assault. The older man has been charged with intentionally causing injury and other assault-related offences, while the teenager was issued a caution. Although initial reports mentioned a baseball bat, police clarified that a blunt object was used. Police stated the incident is not being treated as politically motivated, with one source suggesting it may have been a random, alcohol-fuelled attack.

One Nation leaders, including Pauline Hanson and Colleen Harkin, have condemned the violence, describing it as savage. Hanson noted the victim suffered facial fractures and brain bleeding, characterizing the attack as life-threatening. The incident coincides with the official start of the Victorian state election period.
