One Nation wins historic Western Australian by-election seat

One Nation has secured its first lower-house seat in Western Australia following a historic victory in the Secret Harbour by-election. Candidate Luke Herdegen won the seat, which was previously held by the Labor Party, following a significant swing against the government.

WA Premier Roger Cook acknowledged the result as a signal that voters are struggling with high living costs. He stated that the government would listen to the community's concerns. In response to the win, Herdegen suggested that One Nation would aim to form government at the next state election, a claim Premier Cook dismissed as hubris.

Liberal leader Basil Zempilas defended his party's strategy, arguing that Liberal preferences were instrumental in delivering the One Nation victory. Meanwhile, Federal Prime Minister Anthony Albanese criticized the party, describing it as dangerous, which prompted One Nation leader Pauline Hanson to accuse the Prime Minister of inciting political violence.
