One-off 1964 Plymouth Barracuda prototype up for auction
A unique, one-off prototype of a 1964 Plymouth Barracuda is currently being auctioned on Bring a Trailer. The vehicle is a targa-style “Landau” experiment that was never mass-produced by the Chrysler Corporation.
Originally released as a fastback based on the Valiant compact, this specific prototype features a modified steel roof with a removable canvas cover. The car is equipped with a 273 cubic inch V8 engine, an automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes. It features a gold exterior with a matching interior, which appears to be original.
The vehicle has approximately 52,000 miles on the odometer, with only 15 miles added by the current dealer. While most functional prototypes from this era were scrapped, this specimen remains a rare survivor of early Barracuda engineering.
