One Piece anime enters long hiatus until 2027
The One Piece anime has entered a major production hiatus following the broadcast of episode 1180, titled “Elbaph in Despair – Diabolical Covenant, ‘Domi Reversi’.” Official announcements from the production staff confirm that the series will not return with new episodes until 2027.
This hiatus is part of a strategic shift by Toei Animation to move away from a weekly release schedule. The new production model aims to better align the anime with the pacing and content of Eiichiro Oda’s manga by utilizing a two-cour structure, which limits the series to a maximum of 26 episodes per year starting in 2026.
Despite the long break in the television series, fans can look forward to the upcoming film, “One Piece Film: God Valley,” which is expected to premiere in 2027. The film is anticipated to explore the history of the God Valley incident involving characters such as Gol D. Roger and Rocks D. Xebec.
Episode 1180 recently achieved a significant milestone, debuting with a 9.9/10 rating on IMDb, marking it as the highest-rated episode in the series' history. The episode concluded the first season of the Elbaph Arc, leaving the narrative at a high point of tension involving the character Imu.
