One Piece franchise shifts to seasonal anime format and new film

The One Piece franchise is undergoing a period of transition across its various media formats. Toei Animation and Fuji TV have confirmed that the anime will move to a seasonal production model, resulting in a hiatus from regular weekly episodes. Following the conclusion of the current run in late 2026, new episodes are not expected to return until 2027. This shift aims to align the animation more closely with Eiichiro Oda’s manga pacing and reduce the need for excessive recap scenes.

In addition to the anime changes, the franchise is preparing a theatrical release titled ‘One Piece Film: God Valley’, which is intended to connect directly with the main story rather than serving as a simple spin-off.

Meanwhile, the live-action adaptation has maintained a strong presence at cultural events. During Comic-Con Málaga 2026, key cast members from the Netflix series, including Iñaki Godoy and Taz Skylar, appeared to discuss the production of the second season and share insights into their characters.
