Oneida Family YMCA to host free child car seat safety event

The Oneida Family YMCA in Madison County, New York, will host a free Child Seat Safety Event on Wednesday, September 23, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The event aims to assist parents and caregivers with the correct installation and use of child car seats.

Trained professionals will be available in the YMCA's rear parking lot to inspect seats, explain proper installation, and provide guidance based on a child's specific age, height, and weight. The initiative is sponsored by Madison County Public Health, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.

In New York, children are required by law to use appropriate child restraints until their eighth birthday. This may include a harness-based car seat or a belt-positioning booster seat. State recommendations suggest continuing restraint use if a child is under 4 feet 9 inches tall or weighs less than 100 pounds.
