OnePlus 16 launches in China with record 70,000 sales in one hour

OnePlus has officially launched its flagship OnePlus 16 in China, reporting sales of over 70,000 units within the first hour of availability. Li Jie, president of OnePlus China, noted that the device represents the most successful launch among this year’s Android flagships in the Chinese market.

The OnePlus 16 features a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate that can reach 185Hz during gaming. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Notable hardware includes a 200MP main camera, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, and a massive 9,000mAh battery supporting 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.

In addition to the flagship, leaks regarding the upcoming OnePlus 16R suggest it will feature a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, a 165Hz OLED screen, and a battery exceeding 7,500mAh. Some reports indicate the 16R may include a triple 50MP camera setup. While the OnePlus 16 is seeing strong demand in China, the brand officially exited the European and North American markets in July 2026, meaning the new flagship will not be available in those regions.
