Oneresource warns of security risks for UK micro businesses
Oneresource has issued a warning regarding growing security, compliance, and operational risks facing UK micro businesses. As these small-scale enterprises increasingly rely on a combination of AI tools, freelancers, and offshore support to maintain lean operations, experts suggest that fragmented systems and a lack of clear governance are creating significant vulnerabilities.
According to the British Chambers of Commerce, over half of UK firms are currently using AI tools. Simultaneously, the Federation of Small Businesses estimates that approximately 75% of UK private sector businesses operate without employees, highlighting a rise in solo and founder-led models.
Richard Colligan, founder of Oneresource, noted that many business owners are constructing operating models using disconnected platforms and outsourced providers without a clear understanding of accountability. Risks include AI agent misalignment, software vulnerabilities, and compliance gaps, such as virtual assistants using financial software without proper anti-money laundering (AML) insurance or freelancers using unsupported operating systems.
