OneTag service launched to allow FASTag portability between banks

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has launched ‘OneTag’, a new service designed to allow FASTag users to switch banks without needing to replace their physical RFID stickers. Launched during the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, the service introduces portability similar to mobile SIM card porting.

Previously, changing a bank required closing the existing FASTag account, completing a new onboarding process, and applying a new physical tag to the vehicle's windshield. Under the new system, the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) network will update the bank information digitally in the background, allowing the existing sticker to remain in use.

The transition will not change the physical experience at toll plazas; vehicles will continue to pass through scanners and have fees deducted automatically as usual. The government expects this move to reduce plastic waste from discarded tags, lower costs related to printing and delivery, and provide customers with greater flexibility in choosing banking services.
