oneworld launches unified digital check-in for multi-carrier journeys
The oneworld airline alliance has launched a new digital check-in technology that allows passengers to manage multi-carrier journeys through a single digital channel. Announced during the second oneworld Innovation Summit in Lisbon, the enhancement enables travelers to scan their passports, receive boarding passes for all flight segments, and save them directly to a digital wallet using their preferred airline’s app.
The system uses proprietary technology to allow different member airlines' systems to communicate via a shared digital platform. This means a passenger can check in for a connecting flight operated by a different alliance member without needing to visit a physical check-in counter. Malaysia Airlines was the first carrier to adopt the technology.
Future updates to the service are expected to include check-in capabilities for codeshare itineraries and the provision of dynamic, real-time boarding passes.
