Ong Kian Ming resigns from DAP, pledges support for Khairy Jamaluddin

Dr. Ong Kian Ming, the former Member of Parliament for Bangi and former Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, has resigned from the Democratic Action Party (DAP), effective August 31, 2026.

After 14 years with the party, Ong stated that he does not plan to join another political party in the near future, nor does he intend to contest in the 16th General Election (GE16). He expressed his commitment to fulfilling a previous promise to assist former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin in his political journey and campaign efforts for GE16, should Jamaluddin be provided a seat.

Ong noted that he will continue to serve the country through other avenues, including his podcast ‘Are We OK’, advisory roles, and collaborating with like-minded individuals. In his resignation, he expressed gratitude to DAP leaders, including Tony Pua and Lim Guan Eng, for the opportunities provided during his tenure as an MP for Serdang and Bangi and his service on the party's Central Executive Committee.

DAP leadership has acknowledged the resignation. Syahredzan Johan, DAP Vice Chairman, stated that the decision is a personal choice that the party respects, noting that once a member leaves the party, they are free to assist anyone.
