Onigiri Action 2026 launches to provide school meals via photo submissions
The Onigiri Action 2026 campaign has launched, aiming to collect 50,000 photo submissions of rice balls (onigiri) to provide school meals for children in Africa and Asia. For every photo posted to social media or the official website, partner organizations will donate enough to provide five school meals.
To mark World Food Day on October 16, the campaign features several special initiatives. A limited-edition onigiri named ‘TSUMUGU’ will be sold at the Amehare Shokudo in Tokyo’s Gate City Osaki from October 9 to 16, with 20 yen from each sale donated to Table For Two (TFT). This product was co-developed by Michelin-starred chef Masahiro Haruta of Crony, Oisix, and students from Seiryo Junior and Senior High School.
Additionally, a culinary educational program for students will be held in Minoh, Osaka, on October 24, focusing on cooking skills and global food issues. Mika Sugimoto has been appointed as the campaign’s first special ambassador to help promote the initiative through her work in health and community activities.
