Onitsha Ofala Festival begins with Youth Carnival

The 2026 Ofala Festival in Onitsha, Anambra State, has commenced, beginning with a Youth Carnival organized by the Onitsha Ado Youth Council. The event featured various cultural groups, such as the Otu Odu Onitsha, Egwu Odu, and Agbalanze, performing in traditional regalia to celebrate the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe.

During the festival, Igwe Achebe addressed the community, urging citizens not to rely solely on the government for progress. He emphasized the importance of self-reliance and perseverance, noting that the festival's theme, ‘Igba Mbo, Iga N’Iru’ (strive and advance), reflects the need for individuals to take proactive steps to improve their circumstances amidst national hardships.

The celebrations include several upcoming events, such as the Iru Ofala on October 16, the Azu Ofala on October 17, and a Royal Banquet hosted by Globacom on October 21. The festivities will conclude with an Ofala Thanksgiving service on October 25.
