Onler Kom files criminal defamation case against Mary Kom

Onler Kom, the ex-husband of Olympic medalist boxer Mary Kom, has initiated criminal defamation proceedings against her. The legal action follows allegations that Mary Kom made disparaging remarks about him on television and other public platforms.

The case has been filed under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A conviction under this provision can lead to a fine, imprisonment for up to two years, or both. Onler Kom stated that while he does not object to Mary Kom moving on following their 2023 divorce, he seeks to stop the public defamation. He noted that he had previously refrained from discussing her personal weaknesses but felt compelled to act after being hounded by false allegations.

This legal dispute follows prior accusations made by Mary Kom, who alleged that Onler Kom misappropriated funds earned during her boxing career, took loans in her name, and transferred assets without her consent. Onler has denied these financial allegations. The next court hearing is scheduled for November 19, 2026.
