In the first half of the year, gambling activity in the Czech Republic saw significant growth. According to data from the Financial Administration, total bets reached 574.8 billion CZK, representing a 12.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Total payouts to winners also rose by 13 percent, amounting to 539.6 billion CZK. Gambling operators contributed 11.5 billion CZK in gambling taxes during this period.
Technical games, particularly slot machines, remain the dominant sector, accounting for 78.6 percent of all bets with 452.1 billion CZK wagered. Sports betting followed with 71 billion CZK in bets, while live games—such as roulette and blackjack—showed the fastest growth rate, increasing by 48 percent to 38.6 billion CZK. Lotteries remained a smaller segment, making up 2.3 percent of total bets.
The Czech online gambling market is regulated by the Gambling Act of 2017. Operators must obtain a license from the Ministry of Finance to offer services legally, which includes requirements for identity verification, setting gaming limits, and contributing to the register of excluded persons. Players also have access to international platforms licensed by authorities such as the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) or Gibraltar.
