Indonesia Partners with Meta to Crack Down on Online Gambling Spam

Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has teamed up with Meta to improve detection and removal of spam content that promotes illegal online gambling across digital platforms. The partnership focuses on using advanced moderation technology and faster enforcement to take down accounts and posts that advertise gambling services. Minister Meutya Hafid said, “Collaboration with platform operators is essential to narrow the space where illegal gambling promoters operate and to protect the public.” Meta’s Vice‑President for Public Policy in Asia‑Pacific, Rafael Frankel, pledged continued investment in AI tools and reporting systems to quickly identify and delete violating content.

The move comes as a variety of online gambling services—such as the number‑based game Maha 4D, the football‑betting platform 7meter Parlay Bola, and various dice‑game sites—continue to attract users with promises of big rewards. These services often rely on algorithms and digital marketing that can generate spam links, ads, and comments, prompting authorities to act against the spread of such illicit promotions while also encouraging digital‑media literacy among the public.
