Ono City urban development and regional connectivity
A study of Ono City, Hyogo Prefecture, reveals a high level of urban vitality and strategic planning despite having a population of approximately 46,000, which is about two-thirds the size of Iwamizawa City. The city has successfully implemented a “civic zone” that concentrates public and commercial facilities, including a city hall, police station, library, and sports facilities.
Ono City’s strength appears to stem from its integration into a wider regional network involving neighboring municipalities such as Kato, Miki, and Kasai. This connectivity allows the city to function within a larger commercial and commuting sphere, including proximity to Himeji and Kobe.
Financial comparisons indicate that while Ono City has a smaller population, its tax revenue per capita is approximately 1.4 times higher than that of Iwamizawa City. Additionally, the proportion of city tax revenue in its general account is significantly higher, suggesting a robust local economic structure driven by regional integration and concentrated urban functions.
