Onondaga County: Eight arrested in child exploitation sting
Eight men were arrested following a two-day online child exploitation investigation conducted in Onondaga County, New York, on August 27 and 28. The operation was carried out by the New York State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in collaboration with several agencies, including the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations.
Authorities stated the investigation targeted individuals allegedly attempting to have unlawful contact with children under the age of 15. Each of the eight suspects faces a charge of attempted rape in the second degree, which is a Class E felony. The arrested individuals include residents from Syracuse, Frankfort, New Hartford, Seneca Falls, and Cicero.
One of the arrested individuals, Peter Schaktman, was identified as a rabbi at Temple Emanu-El in Utica. The temple has since placed Schaktman on suspension and prohibited him from being on-site.
