ONPE advances preparations for Peru's 2026 regional and municipal elections

The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) is advancing organizational preparations for the regional and municipal elections scheduled for October 4, 2026. Key developments include the publication of definitive lists for polling station members (miembros de mesa) across various jurisdictions, including La Molina, Tarma, Ucayali, and Trujillo. Citizens selected for these roles are notified that the position is mandatory, with specific legal exceptions for physical or mental impediments, military/police service, or travel requirements.

In Trujillo, ONPE has identified 100 polling stations for over 431,000 voters, with the National Police and Army providing security support. In Ucayali, officials are managing logistics for 52,320 voters across six districts, utilizing fluvial, aerial, and terrestrial transport to navigate the complex geography.

Additionally, ONPE conducted a public lottery to determine the placement of 41 political parties and five national alliances on the official ballots. Alianza para el Progreso secured the first position. The specific composition of each ballot will vary depending on the candidates registered in each specific region, province, and district.
