onsemi and EPIC Microsystems address AI infrastructure power demands
Semiconductor companies are developing new architectures to meet the increasing power requirements of AI infrastructure.
onsemi has introduced its Embedded Power Platform (EPP), a silicon-wafer-based architecture that integrates multiple power and control dies into a single module. The platform aims to provide three to five times higher power density than conventional methods. In AI rack applications, onsemi reports that its solid-state circuit-breaker designs are approximately 50% smaller and 20% cooler than existing models. For electric vehicle use, the platform claims to offer up to four times higher power density and 15% lower power losses.
EPIC Microsystems is also focusing on power delivery challenges for AI infrastructure, specifically targeting GPUs, ASICs, and AI racks. The company is developing semiconductor technology and power solutions centered on Vertical Power Delivery and Hybrid Switch Cap architectures to address bottlenecks in efficiency, current density, thermal performance, and responsiveness to shifting workloads.
